University of Haifa conferred a Doctors of Philosophy Honoris Causa on Eitan Aisenberg, Co-Founder, CEO and Exploration Manager of Ratio Petroleum. The distinguished geologist, who discovering the country’s largest natural gas field off its Mediterranean coast, was recognized for his great contributions to Israeli's energy sector and its energy independence, and his commitment to training a new generation of Israeli scientists. Over 150 people attended the festive ceremony, including Aisenberg's family, friends and colleagues, as well as the University leadership, deans and members of the Honorary Awards Committee and the Board of Governors. The Israeli Friends of the University of Haifa coordinated the event, sponsored by Ratio.

As part of its ongoing programs to strengthen academic cooperation with research centers in the United Arab Emirates, University of Haifa's Soraya and Younes Nazarian Library signed an agreement with the UAE's National Archives and Library. "The Memorandum of Understanding signifies the breaking down of research boundaries in the Middle East," noted Baruch Marzan, VP of Internationalization and Sustainability. The MOU outlined a lengthy list of research and cultural activities where the two libraries will share resources and exchange ideas.

During this time of conflict in Europe, we hope the senseless violence will subside and that peace will return soon. University of Haifa is connecting with Ukrainian universities and scholars-at-risk to assist in any way it can, and has launched a Scholars Refuge Fund to provide support for students (from undergraduate to postdoc) from the Ukraine and the former Soviet Union who are at risk, as well as visiting faculty positions. The University has already received dozens of applications and is currently in the process of reviewing them. The special emergency fund aims to raise $1,250,000 to support approximately 100 scholars. Read More

The fundraising team of the American Society of the University of Haifa (ASUH) recently completed an intense two-week "roadshow" that included online presentations by deans, faculty members and researchers from the University's diverse faculties and schools. The initiative aims to familiarize professionals with future research programs and funding needs across a wide range of fields. University of Haifa is committed to supporting environmental and social sustainability research and education, and is the first university in Israel committed to advancing the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals through research, teaching, and public engagement.

University of Haifa recently welcomed longstanding friend Samir Habiby and his family to the Mt. Carmel campus. Samir, his wife Kathy and daughter Audrey met with the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Oren Gazal-Ayal, Vice Dean Prof. Tal Zarsky, Dr. Tammy Harel Ben-Shahar, Director of the Legal Clinics and Dr. Dalit Ken-Dror Feldman of the Law, Technology and Cyber Clinic. During the visit, the honored guests also met with scholarship recipients supported by the family. The American Society of the University of Haifa coordinated the visit.

University of Haifa was delighted to welcome Barry Shrage, a member of the American Society of the University of Haifa's (ASUH) strategic team. Barry, who led Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Greater Boston (CJP) for more than 30 years, is leading efforts to strengthen relationships between ASUH and its current and prospective supporters, especially in New England. In his week-long visit to the University, he met with numerous researchers and faculty members from a variety of fields, and discussed the plight of Ukrainian Jewry with students from the Ruderman MA Program for American Jewish Studies.

The new cable car linking the University of Haifa to Haifa Bay has officially opened. Connecting the University with the Technion and the Lev Hamifratz central train/bus station, the new cable car covers a total distance of 4.4 kilometers with an elevation gain of 460 meters. Sure to become a major city tourist attraction, most of the passengers are expected to be students traveling to UofH and the Technion. Dubbed the "Rakavlit", the cable car will also accelerate the University's development as a cultural and scientific center. As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, the University is in the midst of several high profile capital projects, including the Sammy Ofer Observation Gallery renovation on the Eshkol Tower's 30th floor, the new Sculpture Garden featuring famous works by Israel's top sculptors, and two new cultural wings that are being added to the Hecht Museum.
