UofH Confers Honorary Doctorate on Nathan Royce Silverstein US Attorney and Philanthropist |

University of Haifa conferred a Doctor of Philosophy Honoris Causa on Nathan Royce Silverstein, US attorney and philanthropist in a festive ceremony held on the Mt. Carmel campus. Silverstein was recognized for being an advocate of the State of Israel, his support of higher education in Israel, and his strong commitment to ensuring the resilience of Israeli society. During a moving ceremony, Silverstein dedicated the University's new Faculty of Law building in memory of his parents, Max Silverstein and Elizabeth Blume Silverstein. Elizabeth Blume-Silverstein was the first female member of the Essex County Bar Association, Vice President of the Women Lawyers Association (predecessor to the National Association of Women Lawyers) and a strong supporter of Zionist causes. Max Silverstein played a pivotal role in the World Jewish Congress in Philadelphia and was a founder and patron of Yeshiva University. The honorable Supreme Court President (Ret.) Dorit Beinisch and attorney Dr. Katy Ritzmann performed the hooding. During her speech, former chief justice Beinisch addressed the potential threats currently facing Israeli democracy in light of the proposed legislative changes to the judicial system.

The Ezri Center for Iran and Gulf States Research Inaugurates New Offices |

Graduate students and faculty members attended the festive ceremony, in the presence of family members of the Center's benefactor Rabi Meir Ezri, who served as Israeli ambassador to Iran for over a decade and a half. Prof. Rear Admiral (Ret.) Shaul Chorev, Head of the Maritime Policy & Strategy Research Center and The Ezri Center for Iran & Persian Gulf Studies, delivered the opening remarks highlighting the Center's instrumental contributions to the study of geopolitical shifts in the Middle East and economic sustainability in the region in recent years. Mr. Yoram Ezri, who co-founded the Ezri Group with his father Meir and who serves as its Chairman, noted the importance of the Center's activities for the Ezri family. Dr. Efrat Sopher, Meir Ezri's granddaughter, took part in the unveiling of the plaque. She serves as Chair of the Board of Advisors at the Ezri Center, is an Executive Committee Member of the HMS Maritime Policy and Strategy Research Center, and Co-Chairs University of Haifa UK friends association. |

Dr. Inbal Rivlin Appointed New Head of the Hecht Museum |

University of Haifa is pleased to announce the new appointment of Dr. Inbal Rivlin as the new Head of the Hecht Museum. Dr. Rivlin, who earned a PhD in Geography and Environmental Studies from the University of Haifa, was the Head of Strategy and Development Haifa 2030 at the Haifa Municipality, where she led projects in the areas of urban renewal, business, and the blue economy. She has also served as Head of the Haifa Economic Corporation, Haifa Life Sciences Park, and HiCenter – A Business Technology Entrepreneurship Center. |

The Reuben Hecht Museum, celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, was founded by the late Dr. Reuben Hecht. Dr. Hecht established the Dagon Silos in the Haifa port and was a founding member of the University of Haifa's Board of Governors. The Hecht Foundation has been a longstanding supporter of the University's academic centers, including establishing the Herzl Institute for Research and Study of Zionism, supporting the School of the Arts, and student scholarships. University of Haifa welcomed US friend and supporter, Dr. Mashey Bernstein, who recently visited the Mt. Carmel campus and personally awarded scholarships to outstanding students for their contributions to the study of LGBTQ studies. Eden Yitzhak presented his research on women who were married to gay men, supervised by Prof. Yuval Yonay (Department of Sociology). Bar Amar presented her paper entitled "Gender Perceptions of Young Adults who Identify on the Autism Spectrum" supervised by Dr. Bracha Nir (Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders). |
