University of Haifa honors faculty members for outstanding accomplishments and contributions during the 2019-20 academic year

Honorary Fellowship Award Conferred on Prof. Aviva Doron in Tribute to her Lifetime Achievements

In recognition of her groundbreaking research in the field of Hebrew literature in Spain and her comparative research in this field of study, of which she is internationally recognized; for her original poetic works; and for devoting her time to promoting education and nurturing cultural openness. Over the course of her career, Prof. Doron worked tirelessly to advance academic initiatives that promoted the study of Spanish Jewry, established and led the Research Unit for the Cultures of Spain at the University of Haifa, and fostered cultural and academic links between Israel and Spain as the Head of the UNESCO Chair in Intercultural and Interreligious Dialogue.

Meet the Rector’s Award Recipients
2020 Dusty and Ettie Miller Fellowship Award for Outstanding Young Scholars

Dr. Roee Admon
Herta and Paul Amir Faculty of Social Sciences

Roee Admon heads the Stress and Psychopathology Research Laboratory at the Department of Psychology. His research integrates behavioral, psychological, physiological, endocrinological and neural (brain function and structure) measures of stress response in healthy populations and individuals with mental illness. Dr. Admon was recently awarded a research grant from The Israel Science Foundation.

*The Dusty and Ettie Miller Fellowship is awarded annually to brilliant scholars by the family's charitable trust in the UK.

Distinguished Senior Researcher Award

Prof. Dana Amir
Faculty of Education

Dana Amir is a clinical psychologist, supervising and training psychoanalysts at the International Psychoanalytic Association and at the Israel Psychoanalytic Society. She serves as the Head of the interdisciplinary doctoral program in psychoanalysis at the Department of Counseling and Human Development. Prof. Amir is a recipient of several prestigious literary and academic awards, and is an active member of the University community, having served on a number of departmental committees, as well as head of the Department’s graduate program.

Prof. Benjamin (Benny) Miller
Herta and Paul Amir Faculty of Social Sciences

Benjamin Miller is a professor of international relations at the School of Political Sciences and Head of the National Security Center. He is a past President of the Israeli Association for International Studies and former Head of the University’s International MA Program in Peace and Conflict. Prof. Miller is a leading expert on international conflict and cooperation.

Distinguished Young Researcher Award

Dr. Rabeea Assy
Faculty of Law

Rabeea Assy is an associate professor in civil procedure and evidence law. His exceptional scholarship and academic activities have earned him international recognition, awards, and financial support from organizations including the EU's Marie Curie Actions program, the German Israeli Fund, and Israel's Maof Fund. Dr. Assy received several prestigious accolades including the Mauro Cappelletti Book Prize (2019), and the Cheishen (2015) and Zeltner (2018) Prizes - the most important and competitive prizes for law academics in Israel.

Lecturer Prize for Outstanding Teaching

Dr. Avital Mentovich
Herta and Paul Amir Faculty of Social Sciences

Avital Mentovich is a senior academic faculty member at the School of Criminology. Dr. Mentovich earned her PhD from NYU before going on to complete postdoc fellowships at Harvard and UCLA. Upon returning to Israel, she joined the Herta and Paul Amir Faculty of Social Sciences where she is teaching graduate level courses. Her research focuses on social psychology, empirical legal studies, and social justice.
